What’s All the Hub..Bub? Atlanta – Short Trip, Long Day
Head South for the day, full of so many things to do in Atlanta.
On the way down, stop in Chamblee-Doraville for an international experience. Buford Highway is a mecca for Korean, Japanese, Mexican and Chinese people. The restaurants are authentic, and there are so many of them. One in particular, Canton House, serves dim-sum, a traditional Chinese cuisine in which small portions of a variety of foods, including an assortment of steamed or fried dumplings, are served in succession which is served from carts that are wheeled about the restaurant. Don’t forget to visit the International Market on Buford. You’ll see the most unusual items there, and think “how do you cook thing?” Don’t forget to explore the many pocket neighborhoods in the metro Atlanta area The competition for good food is a bonus.
Downtown Atlanta has much to offer. Get a high while there…..The High Museum, that is. It is an extensive collection of art, extraordinary exhibits, music programs, lectures and library. You will find images of contemporary art; 19& 20th Century furniture; American and European painting; African art; folk art and photography. It is just a skip away from the Atlanta Symphony. You can also visit the Fern Bank Museum of Natural History, Aquarium, the Coca-Cola exhibit or take a tour of CNN.
Beautiful Atlanta days bring to mind the wonderful Botanical Garden. Here houses an outstanding conservatory of desert and tropical plants, birds and poisonous frogs. Also inside is a stunning orchid house. Strolling about the garden will be a treat for the senses. On a lovely June day, you may also view a beautiful wedding ceremony. Children’s garden, rose garden, herb garden and even a winter blooming, fragrant tree await you.
Shopping at Atlanta rivals that of the big cities. Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza have the luxury stores…Tiffany’s,, Gucci…etc. On the way home, the budget conscious will probably stop off at the Calhoun or Tanger outlets along I-75.
After a full day, or weekend in the “big city” come home to the “burbs” of Chattanooga.
You’ll be glad you did.
